Baby gorilla updates at: http://twitter.com/sfzoo

This is the first day of introductions between Hasani and his surrogate mother, Bawang. It was a wonderful sight to see the two of them together laughing and playing.

  • The description said a "match made in monkey heaven." Gorillas are apes. You'd think the SF Zoo would know that.

  • You are correct wilc1977 - they are apes, not monkeys. The spotlight video description was not written by the Zoo.

  • The foster mother is an adorable oath and that little boy, Hasani, is a cute little bundle of playful fluff. They love each other and zoo staff love them both.

  • @1adadada u make good point there, maybe humans have medications to control it all but gorillas have the same reaction and no medication to control it. Gatorade does sound stupid.

  • Gatorade? really? The last two male gorillas at London zoo, died of diabetes and a heart attack_ I wonder why!

  • Soooooooooo cute Omg!!

  • Fabulous! great job, SF Zoo

  • @charmedluver22 I think she was sick and couldn't take care of her child

  • gatortade awsome

  • Amazing thank you for sharing this with us!

  • what happened to the real momma??

  • ohh:-) so qute they are:-) she is gonna be the best mom :-D

  • I read somewhere that gorillas in the wild do surrogate babies. Just saying!!

And this time I will say...if I am wrong "so what"...that baby is being raised by his own kind..Not by humans. That is a good thing.

Sadly enough the rate the gorilla's natural habitat is almost gone and they will be gone within the next 10 years or less. Zoo's are the only place they may exist. It is sad but, true.
