@JohnD70978 You do realize that Jayne Meadows is still among the living. She celebrated her 91st birthday in September of 2011.

Jayne Meadows was known to have quite an unsightly lump on her head in the shape of an engorged butternut squash. She had to resort to all sorts of tricks to conceal it. In later years she took to wearing a bowl of fruit on her head like Carmen Miranda. Once on the Red Skelton Christmas Show she hung pine cones from it and sang Oh Tannenbaum. I truly miss Jayne and her lump. May she rest in peace.

@IEnjoyHippies 1954. They were married for 46 years when Steve died.

@IEnjoyHippies OMG, I totally keep saying that too! They're so refined in their wittiness and yet they also give off a comfortable vibe that makes you feel as though you know them, or at least want to know them. Very natural, congenial people.

i have noticed when dorothy wants to ask a guest a question she puts up her hand to get permission since she gets bashed for being pushy i wonder why she never gets credit for good manners?

@KennySherman When Steve Allen was a regular panelist, he would often ask contestants about products they were involved whether said product was "bigger than a breadbox"? And one night to mess with him, they had on a guy who made breadboxes.

Bennett can be so ... upright. Note that Jayne leans forward as if to kiss him at 4:18 -- as she then does the rest -- but Bennett simply beams, stands stiffly as he always does, and shakes her hand. Ah, my favorite nerd ...

@CarlyIsAGangster Yeah, and it was Christmas so she was wearing a snowflake tiara.

Miss Jane M. wa a perfect foil / match for Stev A.- she evidently was smart enough to hold his attention, I think Jane enjoyed all of the talent Steve possessed. - A very entertaining couple with great talent alone & together ...

Well, it is often the case that people who do not blatantly curse or insult others use more subtle jabs to express their disdain. As for knowing Steve and Jayne well, it seems that in those days there were a tight knit group of "celebrities" and notables that all knew each other. These days, there are almost no stars left - just a load of undistiguished nobodys who have done one or two movies or tv shows before sinking into obscurity. Career entertainers are a thing of the past.
I don't think Arlene was trying to be mean.
She knew Steve Allen and his wife well.
But I do see how it would of been taken the wrong way.
Plus its way out of character for Arlene. She was never mean.
