From the third Test match of the 1997 Lions Tour to South Africa, played on July 5th: a little bit of conflict between spectators. Having already won the series but looking for a series white wash over the world champion Springboks, the Lions found the final Test a bridge too far. The South Africans restored some pride with a 35-16 victory.

This little incident however, gives us a look at the other side of the picture, as it shows how the coaches respond to a piece of questionable play from Springbok forward Andre Venter. Despite Ian McGeechan's attempts to keep forwards coach Jim Telfer quiet, the hard-as-nails Scotsman banters with a South African fan who points out Venter only stamped the Lion because he was being held onto illegally. Another fan, in front of Telfer adds her two cents. Telfer cannot resist getting in the last word(s), "Speak English" before everyone moves on and refocuses their attention on the game.

  • Ian McGeechan encompasses everything good and cool about rugby

  • Brutalised? Lions scored more tries and more points over the three games. SA rugby hasnt covered itself in glory this series, the coach is a joke and the team has to resort to thug tactics to win. As for arrogance...probably the word most associated with Afrikans the world over.

  • what a god

  • Venter is only surpassed by Jamie Joseph as cheap shot world champion. They both stand head and shoulders above the rest.

  • hahaha classic.

  • @pharry4life errrrrrrrrr,so how did your "fantastic lions" manage to lose to the Boks if they scored more points?knucklehead. I guess, one could say the word " concentration camps" is synominous with "The best of British ".

  • Ha! Why sit in the stands during a lions series (always played away from home/friendly crowds) if you're going to get annoyed with opposition supporters who will all have had a few drinks before the game? That's amazing. The mind boggles!

  • effing pommie! speak english, jou ma se.......

  • Good for you Jim.

  • ha ha bloody funny.
