@edwu91 (continued) Crash test ratings aren't everything either, having the ability to avoid an accident through good braking, acceleration, and handling are key factors. The Corolla is lacking considerably in all three of those aspects. Corollas have virtually no passing power either.

With reliability, I think a key factor is that Toyota engines have it easy. They will rarely, if ever, reach redline or truly be pushed hard. The transmission also granny-shifts, so that gets babied too.

@edwu91 Its the best selling because its CHEAP/AFFORDABLE and meets the minimum requirements of the new or average driver. The truth is, the steering wheel and pedals are vague and numb. Its extremely slow, the handling sucks overall, and even the 2011 models still rely on rear drum brakes which gives it a longer 60-0 braking distance than a '11 Toyota Sienna which is 1,700 pounds heavier than a Corolla.

It's reliable, safe, and cheap, but nobody who actually likes cars would like a Corolla.
