Judge Napolitano: Bob Costas Has 'No Basis' for Bringing Gun Control Into the Jovan Belcher Tragedy

On FBN's Varney & Co. this morning, Judge Andrew Napolitano weighed in on the issue, saying that Costas and Whitlock have "no basis" for the conclusion that Belcher and Perkins would still be alive if he did not have access to a gun.

"We all use steak knives to help us enjoy our meals, but they can also be a dangerous weapon. So is the government going to ban them? They're far more easily attainable than guns," said Napolitano.

I don't know. I think the 15 year old boy that used his dads AR15 to protect himself, his sister and his home would disagree, I think the mother that was attacked by a madman in her house and used a pistol to shoot the intruder 5 times saving herself and her children would disagree, how about the people who defended themselves and their shops in L.A. Riots with semi-automatic Assault Rifles. They would be dead in shops that burned to the ground.

i'd argue that he should be fired because its not his job to push political opinions, its to talk about sports. and since he was at his workplace that just so happens to be in primetime on a major network him pushing his political beliefs was highley inappropriate. if he wanted to exercise his free speech elsewhere then no problem. But he was at his job where he is supposed to talk to millions about sports. free speech does not apply

It's not that I'm a Marxist, it's that I believe people have the right to speak freely. You know, fundamental American principles. Instead of dodging the question by accusing someone you don't know of subscribing to an ideology you clearly don't understand, explain to me if you please: why should Costas be fired for voicing his opinion? And, considering free speech and the right to bear arms are equally important components of America's constitution, how does that make you any better?
