was held a bit high, or wind was crossing...? That likely 'reinforced' the
continuing left turn.

Nope. He is still flying. Currently he moved to the paraglider sport.

Yes, he is active pilot. As usually the hang-glider accidents looks worse compaired to the injuries. The basebar and the other tubes good impact suspressors.
