  • @Okalaboration, yes we did a deer hide scraping class last spring and only 2 people came. Video makes it possible to share with anyone! I'll be adding videos on tanning this year, but call/email me if you have questions or need help. Aloha!

  • @winterwoodlands thanks for watching. These hides I get do have more meat than most. But no knife cuts. He pulls the hides off and whatever meat wants to comes off with it. It's what rawhide braiders prefer over knife cuts. You have to scrape the entire hide to remove the membrane anyway, and meat attached to membrane helps it come off faster. Thanks for your observations and stay tuned for more videos in 2012.

  • @freestylmx311 I've done it, but in this warm environment you run the risk of it turning quite stinky. Also, the lime water splashes up on your clothes & face. Yucky. I have a pneumatic tool to try in the new year. Should make fleshing a breeze, and maybe be useful for thinning the hide in the neck area etc.

  • @burntoastification, thx for the feedback. I wanted to be helpful. It's the reason behind all my how to videos. Glad u like it. Hope you get to try this soon if you haven't already.

  • So funny! I was looking this up to learn about the process before I picked up a hide from Lokahi. Never expected to see a video made on maui wirh axis deer. Thanks!

  • thank you for help.

  • have you ever tried to flesh the skin after you let them sit in your de-hair bath? Ive neve done it but I saw a video of a guy that did it and it really seemed to come off much easier

  • Very helpful, thank you!

  • I've never tanned a hide or anything before but this video was wicked helpful for fleshing. Thank you.

  • @TheBlackSheep2134 I actually felt that pulling a skin off (not cutting it off the animal) makes things more easy in the fleshing process. To each his own, though.
