Today's top story is Bon Secours ConnectCare goes live at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital, part of the Bon Secours Kentucky Health System.

On Sunday July 31, 2011 Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Ashland Kentucky went live with ConnectCare.

ConnectCare is Bon Secours' integrated system that makes it possible to link all clinical information in one record.

It also provides leading clinical practices and information to enhance our ability to provide superior care and services to our patients and physicians, resulting in enhanced operating performance and outcomes.

And Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital is the lastest facility to go live with ConnectCare.

After months and months of preparation...then a full day and night of last minute preparations, Jennifer Moore, Sr. Vice President of Patient Care Services announced at approximately 2:50 AM that the hospital was live!

The new system was met with great anticipation and excitement among the staff.

Justin Fuller, RN, and ConnectCare Project Director at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital was quoted as saying, "The ConnectCare go-live at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital has been a tremendous success.

We had the opportunity to learn from our sister facilities and their experiences... to further streamline the training and implementation process for OLBH.

Everyone worked very hard to learn this system. We've already begun to see positive yields in terms of improved patient care, shorter length-of-stays, and overall system adoption."

And you can see the excitement in the faces of everyone from ED, to IS, to radiology, to pediatrics, to enterprise support...the excitement was palpable.

Please join us in congratulating Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital for being the lasted facility to go live with ConnectCare.

In other news.....dateline Suffern, NY. Good Samaritan Hospital is recognized for implementing quality stroke care.

On August 3, 2011 Good Samaritan Hospital, part of the Bon Secours Charity Health System was recognized for achievement in using evidence-based guidelines to provide the best possible care to patients.

The recognition came from participation in the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association's Get with the Guidelines program.

Get With the Guidelines is a program that helps ensure consistent application of the most recent American Heart Association scientific guidelines for patient treatment.

The program includes in-hospital modules for heart failure, stroke and resuscitation as well as a program for outpatient practices.

Good Sam's achievement recognizes it as a hospital that has, for at least 12 months, reached an 85% or higher adherence to all achievement measures applicable and at least 75% or higher adherence on select quality measures in heart failure and/or stroke.

According to the American Heart Association, adherence to the guidelines means that patients are getting the right care they need when they need it.

To that Bon Secours Charity Health System CEO Phil Patterson says,

"We are proud that the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association has chosen the "America's Best Hospitals" issue of US News and World Report to recognize Good Samaritan Hospital for our achievements in their "Get with the Guidelines Program.

Get with the Guidelines gives our professionals the tools and reports they need to efficiently treat our patients."

Good Samaritan Hospital...providing the right care at the right time...part of providing good help to those in need.

Finally, while summertime means no school for many students, the Bon Secours of Maryland Foundation is busy supporting the teaching of classes to assist residents of the Bon Secours Baltimore Health System Community in getting a better education.

As you know, Bon Secours Baltimore Health System is a true community hospital that reaches far beyond a hospital's traditional role.

This year at the Bon Secours Center for Working Families in Baltimore there are 25 very diligent students trying to beat the odds by focusing their minds on getting their GED.

According to the latest US Census, acquiring a GED can mean a $10,000 increase in income to a Maryland resident. For many in Baltimore that can mean the difference between being self-sufficient and struggling to make ends meet.

So this summer, Kisha Webster spends 3 hours a day, Monday thru Friday, teaching a classroom of committed adults who are helping themselves to a better life by getting their GED. And Kisha is as committed as the students.

According to Kisha, "I have 5 students signed up to take the GED in August and September that I know will pass the test."

Bon Secours of Maryland Foundation has many community commitment programs running year round to help build a healthy community. The summer GED program is just one of them.
