Created with Reason 4 using Garritan Personal Orchestra refills

This is the first composition I've done for my uni course in Music Composition. The brief was to write a solo percussion piece using 2 sounds from one instrument. So chose a tam tam, which is the type of gong used in western music most often, so I could write a more ambient piece rather than the more expected rhythm based one. The 2 sounds I used were the basic hit.roll and scraping the side of the tam tam with a metal beater.

I think this is going to be used in the same mod as 'Unhallowed Depths' which means super yay for me!

Next we have to write something for 2 percussion instruments, so look out for that in the next few weeks.

  • I'm curious. When you say a 'metal beater', do you mean a metal mallet?

  • @memakemusic81 Yeah I suppose that could work, but really it could be anything metal. When I was trying things out I used some keys. It's a scraping action on the side I want though so anything metal that can do that is good.

  • This is a very effective ambient piece to back a dark setting.
