In this video, Ian Cross from Swimming Without Stress explains some important points to help you with your front crawl. The practices demonstrated here by Cheryl and Ian Cross were shown to us by Steven Shaw who we trained under between 1997- 1999. The movements are informed by the Alexander Technique. For more information see www.swimmingwithoutstress.co.uk or Ian's book, Swimming Without Stress, Lessons for Land Lovers.

Hi Eranlandau, it sounds like you're doing well. I would say you should be happy for now to rest in the breathing position and find your balance; to find a place to have a breather without straining your neck. As this improves, it will give you confidence and you'll begin to find a comfortable place from where you can take an unrushed, relaxed breath without resting for so long in the position.

Hello. I decided to learn your method because it looks like a gentle way that that I liked right away. Also somthing about your voice sound very realxing and appealing to me. I now can swim on the side and change from side to side three times and then stay on my back. I tried to "patch" these triplets into one flow and swim all the way, but in doing so I have only little time to breath between the triplets and after one or two sets I can't go on. Do you have any suggetions? Thanks you

I'd love to be able to swim like this. I've struggled for years, recently found out that my kick was ineffective due to inflexible ankles.
inflater2000 4 months ago
@inflater2000 Don't be put off by being told you have inflexible ankles. It's what you're thinking about the kick, not how flexible your ankles are, that counts. If you can walk, your ankles are probably flexible enough for a decent front crawl kick. Remember you don't need to do anything with the ankles to make your feet like flippers - do nothing with your ankles and the water will move your feet (however limited your ankle flexibility is) and you'll move.
