The terminal, which is operated by Terminale LNG Adriatico Srl, a company owned by Qatar Terminal Limited (45%), ExxonMobil Italiana Gas (45%) and Edison (10%), will be the first offshore facility in the world for unloading, storing and regasifying natural gas. With a regasification capacity of 8 billion cubic meters of natural gas a year, the LNG terminal will increase by 200% Italys regasification capacity and account for 10% of the countrys natural gas needs. This facility will thus play a key role in increasing Italys energy security and will make the Italian natural gas market more competitive.
