  • Pastor Adams is great! & a really nice person. It's always a joy 2 c him.

  • Yeah. Dr. Abbington was my organ teacher at Shaw University in Raleigh NC. I came to MI in 2000. I would only touch the pipe organ. I never got a chance to work the Hammond. I wonder if Barr even knew I could play gospel. I asked him one time could I play Hammond behind the deacons and he just flat out said "no". Wayne wasn't to tough at gospel. I think he's at a HBCU in AL now.

  • Then that was shortly after Jimmie Abbington left.

  • Just before Wayne Barr left. He was the one who would invite me. Let's see, this must've been some time around 2000-2002?

  • I am a member of Hartford. Which guest were you, we use to have so many?

  • I am serving as the sixth pastor of the New Bethlehem Baptist Church, which was organized in 1916. As you can imagine, I understand the "contant comparison" you speak of. My theory is simply that one can't win a fight against a former, alive or dead, and eventually time will avail new fingerprints to be discovered. I really don't remember getting anything that didn't stretch me otherwise boredom was a first and frequent friend. I think you should go for it (can you tell?)!

  • It is. Its probably the most coveted church music position in Detroit, I think at least. But I just cringe to imagine the constant comparisons to Jimmy Abbington my teacher if I were to get the job. Ive got more to learn before I try out for it. But, Adams has the eloquence of any great seasoned lecturer, but is also able to bring it home with a great hooping session at the end of his sermons (& its not just empty gesturing either). What church do you pastor in Philly?
