@crozecamp Originally, that's what Akira Toriyama planned, primarily because popularity declined. He would end the series with one epic battle. But by the end of the Frieza saga, it was at an all time high. So Akira Toriyama extended the series. This is very similar to what happened with power rangers and it's 6th season (in space). It was supposed to be cancelled after season 6, but it was so popular, that it got renewed for several seasons.

You like Super Saiyan being so unique, but the truth of the matter is that Akira Toriyama didn't made such a grand pause between the Frieza Saga and Cell Saga.

Read the manga. Goku is easily more powerful than Frieza is when he's in Super Saiyan form. I'm telling you, the story from the real creator definitely outlines this. While Goku didn't KILL Frieza, he is most certainly more powerful. In fact, Goku stops fighting and goes to leave because Frieza just plain isn't a challenge for him.
