what is the avarage fuel consumption on these? (in liters/100kms)
my aunts husband has inheired a mid 60's beetle from his grandma, she was the only owner on it and they havent used it since, but its sitting on their yard so its not as nice anymore. :( it was kind of mint compared to the avarage bug. now its green of moss and algies and shit, but relatively rust free as far as im concernd. would be more than happy to fix it, i mean how much work could there be? drum brakes and wire clutch..

im sorry did u say mine beetle

I would make sure to keep that thing in tip top shape and make sure the fuel lines are all good. i do know those beetles are a fire hazard cause once those things catch fire they burn great since of what the engine is made from. around here in the us when one catches fire the fire diparments let them burn cause they are hard to put out when they are on fire. just keep it in tip top shape and u should be good

yeah well my baja will smash on that bug...

@ilove360s Aw thanks! I hope when you're a bit older and have some money you can find one. I'm sure there is one somewhere for you, waiting in an old barn. They've been around for 50 years or something - no reason why there won;t be some still around for another 50. People love them so they keep them going. They just get more expensive, though. Start saving!

Still plenty lying around... Best way - buy an unfinished project. I want another one, an oval.

For a while there I thought you were Austrailian. Didn't the UKget the 1300 with the "standard" body that the 1500 sedan had since 68? Yours is a 72 and yet it has the same body as the pre-68's we've had here in the Philippines. Just wanted to clarify this little confusion cause we've also had the 1300 with the standard body but not until the mid-70s. It was called the 1300-S which i now think stood for "Standard".

G'day Chuddle. I'm not sure exactly. I know a few people have been surprised at it but I can't remember why! One guy thought it was a 1500 with a 1300 engine, cos of the body. Would that explain it?
Maybe someone else reading this can help.

G'day yourself, sir. I can see why someone would confuse your car for the 1500: it's because of the rear deck louvres and the externally located petrol filler door--features only found in the 1500, or so I thought. Because the bumpers are not installed, the only clue to it's real identity is the smaller 1300 tailights. The1300 "standard" i saw looked exactly like the 1500. The UK version was likely to be of German origin, while the Philippine edition was Brazillian.

Yes, definitely German. I got a set of sloping headlights and wings to match for her... Now, that would add even more confusion!
