To understand it all you need to watch form 2005 the episode 'rose'. Then start paying more attention at series four, when river song comes into play! I love doctor who and I have come to realise that I don't really mind who the doctor is as they are all fantastic! But it will be hard to get rid of Rory and Amy because of River!
