I always wanted a silenced revolver since I heard all about how they're "impossible" to make. Well, not if you use an old-as-dirt design that seals the cylinder gap.

I GIVE YOU... a silenced revolver. Naysayers, pay up. :D

To those interested in tech specs, here you are:

HotShot ammo, running a 98gr bullet at 900FPS or so

Mike from www.tornado-technologies.com threaded the barrel (it was $75)

The silencer is a Yankee Hill Machine (YHM) Cobra 9mm with a Nielsen device (though the Nielsen device isn't needed, I use this on my Glock 17 and P38 as well)

The silencer is registered per the 1934 NFA and complies with applicable state laws.

  • i believe the revolver shoots under 330mps?

  • @cometaztheoriginal Indeed it does. The projectiles average 181mps. :)

  • @elitearbor what about the output speed? i heard about something that when it's under 330mps it doesnt break the sound barrier, which makes a silencer pretty effective... am i right? =)

  • @cometaztheoriginal The quiet sound levels coming from this particular combination are from the silencer trapping and cooling the gas before allowing it out, plus the relatively low speed (well under the speed of sound) of the projectile. If I were to fire a projectile that is even slightly above the speed of sound, say 335mps (about 1100fps) then there would indeed be a sonic crack and the report would be quite loud still. In short, yes, you are correct about how silencers work.

  • can you post a link to where you got this silencer?

  • @vinosd773 YouTube does not allow links, but it is a YHM Cobra 9mm. It is no longer available, and there are FAR better choices in silencers for this sort of use.
