Retrieving lost attachments
Did you know that you can accidentally drag an object into your body? How do you retrieve an attachment that is buried in your body? If you have a backup, you can save the object back to your Inventory. If you don't have a backup, follow these simple steps. Find the attachment in your Inventory, remember its attach point (an attachment's position and rotation are only stored for a single attach point). Then detach it, and reattach it somewhere else. Once you have changed the detachment point, you will reattach it to the original point, and make any repositioning adjustments necessary. I you can't find the object in your Inventory, you can Search Inventory for "(WORN" (no closing bracket) it will find it. It then will tell you where it is currently attached. So you will have to do some manual readjustment, such as rotation, re-placement. You can keep a backup of what you have done, so you can save the object back to your inventory.

  • Isn't it better to just add the edit option in the inventory list so i just right-click on the worn item from inventory and sellect edit instead of looking for attachments worn on my avatar ? That way i could retrieve all sunken attachments from my body. Other workaround is to edit the appearance, shrink my avatar, retrieve the object and then restore back the shape of avatar.

  • Easier way. Go into wire-frame view and move your attachment - then you don't lose all your rotation, etc.

As for retrieving attachments that all attach to your rear end, logout and login again. They will be back to their normal positions.

  • Hey do you have to download this game?!?!?!?!?

  • This is a bug (which was actually patched by open source contributor Nicholaz Beresford and never adopted by LL.) There are really only two ways to do this: Make that outfit into a folder and so when you arrive with shoes in your rear, you can remove the entire folder and then drop it on yourself again, or you can log out and in.

  • Really good tip, as obvious as it may seem! I have lost attachments in this way and it took me an hour to figure out how to outsmart it!

  • I simply alt+click on the ground and maneuver my camera inside of my body (because if you alt+click your body, you won't be able to look inside of yourself). Then I find whatever the attachment was, right click, edit, then move it back out.

But this is a good way too. Great tutorial.

  • Isnt it easier to just Ctrl+Shift+R to pull up the wire frames then just pull it out? what about if you accidently launch an item far away? how do you find it quickly when undo isnt working?

  • Thank you so much, Torley, even a!seasoned Second Lifer can find this useful.

  • another tip about attachments. If the attachment is modifyable, rez the attachment (necklace) on the ground and create a tiny prim in the center position of the necklace. Make sure the prim has 0 for each rotation. Next you attach the necklace to this tiny prim. When you attach it, it will be rotated correctly for the attach point and you won't have to rotate again like torley does in this video.
