A tribute to a beautiful & historic steamboat.
Planned in 1973 and scrapped in 2011, the Mississippi Queen is the second largest paddler to sail the Mississippi River

  • @baritonebynight You are right. It is almost as if Nero was running things in DC to allow such to happen. I think there will be enough pressure on Congress to eventually move in the right direction on this one. The DQ is going to require some spruceing up before heading back into service but I think enough donations and private funds will be available once it is known that she is legal again. The Delta King (a "sister" ship") is still in existence. Not a well known fact.

  • @Modeltnick Its interesting that initially Democrats were blamed for the Delta Queen's lack of exemption, yet now its a republican controlled congress...so its not a partisan issue.

  • @baritonebynight Thankis for your response. I agree that the American Queen lacks some of the charactor as the "real thing" but I think it is the best bet to get people to plunk down their cash for a river cruise and in turn maybe get the older sister (Delta Queen) back into service. Congress has a strangle hold on the DQ right now also. I think the DQ can be bought for about $15M from it's present owners.

  • @Modeltnick Anyword on Delta Queen? It seems all of the focus is on the propeller driven (although with fake steam powered paddlewheel which isn't powerful enough to move the boat) American Queen returning to service. In these tough economic times, I would assume scrap the American Queen and use the money to return the historic Delta Queen to service. If any is left over, get the Julia Belle back as well.

  • why im practicliy crying even though this boat is old dosent mean you have to scrap a piece of history just imagine the hard working workers building this and then the american goverment scrapped it and then thats it nothing more a beauty of mankind

  • @MrVampire583

Gee power went out again...anyway, you got to be on this beautiful boat? I remember the Regatta's here in Pittsburgh and I saw photos of those days in the Marriott Hotel in Cranberry Twp. PA. Tell me why did they do this? What was the reason behind the insanity? Hope to hear from you soon! Thx!

  • What the hell happened? it looked in great shape? Anyone know why this was and the reasoning behind it? Btw, very nice video and song very very nice.

  • A great tribute to this great ship. Luckily her sisters are on a track to survive. The American Queen is going back into service in the Spring of 2012 and the Delta Queen is awaiting Congress to free her from her moorings. Keep praying.

  • well the song says it all i do miss her so much fun to work and sail on she will be dearly missed
