My first barroom gig was with a Soul and R'n'B band at the Escape Club down on Main Street. I was just a kid, still at R.E. Lee H.S. The older guys in the band spoke in awe about Sir Doug. Rumor had it that SAPD got an attitude about him and he had to leave town and he ended up in San Francisco. When I got out of the Navy, he had returned, but was in Austin which was really happening in '73. I saw him at the Soap Creek Saloon.

It's always great to hear a tune from my fellow San Antonio native. Doug started singing and playing the blues at a very young age and he sounded authentic even way back then. Thanks for the post and the memories.
