Dean guitars are by far my favorite.
Yes, gibson are popular... but Gibson, I think, are really very overrated just because they are used by the most popular (I hesitate to say "mainstream") artist.
Deans have that nice vicious growl with enough drive.
The acoustics, as well, are still just as good! Much cheaper than martin and still deliver for the price.

i have a dean z black gold which i thought would be the last guitar id buy it plays so well that was untill 2 months ago at my local rockshop my attention was grabbed by a flat black with all gold hardware including gold flod rose dean deciever fng i had to have a go and within 5 minutes i new i was about to spend the rent money! dean guitars rule anything that was good enough for dimebag is way to good for me but ill buy it anyway! im about to order my 3 year old her first dean v only the best!
