Does the hair on the back of your neck stand up when you hear a Spitfire's Merlin engine fly over head?
What does the sound of SIXTEEN Spitfires do for you?
See and hear them as they would have looked seventy years ago, taking off and going to attack the Luftwaffe outnumbered three to one.
Listen to the music of all those engines.
Watch them fly in formation then split into four groups of four.
Watch and listen as they fly past again and again.
The Americans say the jet engines of their fighters is the sound of freedom.
For the British the Merlin the is the sound of freedom.

  • I was standing right behind you when you took this vedio. It was the best display of Spitfires I will probably ever see. Thanks for posting this for all the Merlin Lovers who could not attend, and wish they were at Duxford for either or both days of Spitfire Heaven.

  • @det79jen - small world! Glad you enjoyed it too. Yes, it was a very rare site. Someone said that it was about a third of all the airworthy Spitfires in the world, but I don't know if that's accurate.

  • wow! great sound and great video

  • @sneaky634

Thanks! Yes, it was quite a magical day and a rare occasion to hear and see no less than sixteen in the air at once.

  • @CMLLIS yes mate theres something there for sure..

  • Did you folks noticed anything odd happening up high in the clouds behind the planes' squadron ? If not, just go watching the video again and pay attention to the images in between 02:05 and 02:09. You'll see that there is a very suspicious aircraft ( seems to be a UFO) flying fast among the clouds. I may be wrong... you tell me.

  • I am from the USA and God Bless the men that flew the Spitfire and Hurricanes. Those airplanes and men are your freedom and NEVER forget those who have died to give it to you. Thanks to our mother country, England!

  • Is there a website where i van see when the next show is?

  • Thanks for a great vid....brings tears to the eyes...what a combination...Spitfire and Merlin....and to think that when I was a nipper we had a decommissioned Spit in the playground !
