Normally, we're opposed to the de-clawing of pets; however, in this case, it may be the humane thing to do.

BTW, at about 2:30 into this buddhacrunk video, /watch?v=ibrKPQQsIXI their cat employs the exact same technique. We'd never even heard of this phenomnomnomnomenon until today, but it suddenly appears to be a widespread practice. Could this be a feline example of the 'hundredth monkey effect'?
