  • I'll never forget those years. I can still hear Ernest say "Aah Leon". I'd swear he used that phrase long after Leon left. I'm in the twighlight of my years now, but the last 20 years as a longhaul truck driver were very dull without the Grand Ole Opry, and after midnight trucking with Charlie Dougals and Bill Mack.

  • Heard so many players say when they first heard Leon is when they decided to start playing themselves. I bought an E.T. greatest hits in 89 just for reference for my playing and fell for Leon's wonderfull style.

  • In the early 50's I heard This Gentleman playing with Earnest Tubb , I fell in love with the Guitar and have loved his wonderful style and sweet smile. God Bless, forever a fan of yours

  • That swing he has in his rythm is so distinct through his leads and melodies..granted a lot of those turnarounds and signature lick stuff would be limiting to some players, but in the hands of a great player like Leon, they never get old. His stuff with the Troubadours is tough to beat, let alone match. The Strangers are about the only other band of the caliber the Troubadours were capable of delivering. One of the all time great bands in any genre

  • These new guys and some of the old ones can't even carry Leon's case! He was so far ahead of his time and still those instrumentals are beyond anything being recorded today. He is one of the greatest if not thee greatest Western Swing player of all time. I was fortunate to meet him several times backstage at the opry and I'll cherish it forever!

  • Leon Rhodes is as good as guitar playing gets! I have talked with him a few times backstage at the Opry and his total lack of ego always amazed me. A wonderful talent and a great man.

  • So sweet. Thank you for sharing this.

  • This is truly one of the tastiest and classiest lead guitar pickers ever in country music. He was always so clear and clean with his distinct sound. He truly had his own sound and style. Country music has lost this type of signature guitar pickers today with the clinically pure sound and all, Leon you are in my mind really put a trademark on E.T.'s music.....I miss this and E.T.

  • Leon Rhodes has always been one of my favorites he is by far the best hands down!

  • Great interview, memories to cherish forever ! Hope to see you soon Leon!
