Visit http://www.jrcs.com to view additional cosmetic surgery videos. Until recently, most women undergoing breast reconstruction needed to have a second surgery many months after their mastectomy. As Dr. James Romanelli explains in this video clip, modern skin-sparring techniques allow for immediate reconstruction following mastectomy ("direct to implant" reconstruction) for his Long Island breast surgery patients.

  • @tracy10UT In the early stage breast cancer, an immediate breast reconstruction can be safely done. Otherwise, would be better to wait for a secondary breast reconstruction after completion of radiotherapy.

    .

  • My surgeon tells me that they don't do this immediately in this city of over a million people in Canada. He says people have to wait 6 months.

I hate that thought because it means you need general anaesthetic poison in your body all over again, and this stuff can destroy both your brain and liver.

On the other hand, what if you get breast reconstruction right away and they find out there was still some cancer left?
