@myPETsnailFRED i dont have a mini yet.. im not old enough to drive yet... will be gettin 1 asap tho with a straight cut box =)

hopefully i will get one like yours, standard engine and straight cut gears

@myPETsnailFRED straight cut gears give better power delivery than helical gears (helical gears are used in most cars), and they give that little whining noise which sounds great =) the reason helical gears dont have the whine is because they mesh gradually and smoother, so therefore dont make as much noise as they mesh together. helical gears tend to be stronger than straight cut gears aswel, as theres more surface area on the teeth of the gear so the force is spread out more.. hope that helps!

hey can you tell me about straight cut gear boxes please, what do they do? make them accelerate faster? make that nice noise in this video? im not sure what they are for
-
nah still got synchros so double clutching isnt necessary
Nice car you got there, i have a mini in almond green with a white roof. What is the top speed of your mini, does it have a different final drive ratio on the straight cut dropgears compared to the standard mini gears? Any help much appreciated.

The car in the vid is currently going under a nut-bolt rebuild. However, i could manage just about 90mph with it. Final drive was 2.95, drop gear ratio was 1:1. Spec was 998cc totally standard basically.

That's correct. This is my Mini which has straight cut drop gears (also known as transfer gears) which are there put mainly for the awesome noise, but also they help reduce the amount of energy and power lost through the standard helical gears, although this is marginal.
