http://westernfolklife.org While reflecting on the "outlaw" reputation of the small town where she grew up, our filmmaker tells why she's decided to leave the city and move back home in this Old West, New West video. Filmmaker: Kristin Windbigler, Blocksburg CA. Length: 7:15
I have no idea where your town is. But I bet there are a lot of us that can relate to your story.

What a wonderful video, Kristin! I've lived in Humboldt for a long time and always wondered about Blocksburg and other small mountain towns like Hyampom and Hayfork. Thanks for the education! You're really talented.

To all those who can "live anywhere we want to":
when are there too many homesteaders living in California's remaining pristine riparian areas?
When the creeks and swimming holes dry up?
When the predator species are gone?
When inadequate septic, dirt roads and livestock spoil streams?
When, according to the CDFG 90% of CA. streams are "in peril" and 95% of our wetlands are vanished?
When do we begin to articulate limitations on an environmental legacy repeating itself from coast to coast?

I believe we are cousins a few times removed. My granddad is Jack Windbigler, and I remember Dalton from the few times my sister and I tagged along to the camp out down at George's place. I don't think we ever stayed overnight, though. We just went for the day with our grandparents. I didn't realize you guys were still doing that. You must be coming up soon then? If so, I would, of course, love to meet you.

My family camps annually in between bridgeville and Blocksburg on the Brightman land..just wondering if we have any relation to each other and if so maybe my family and i could meet you and the kids would get a kick on learning more on our heritage as my wife and i just enjoyed this possibility! :) if not still a great story and naration we really enjoyed it.
