(Jaap Mikkers Collection) An unusual design featuring conventional track-guided slide panel, but with external sweep cylinders mounted on the sidewalls, and working the sweep blade via the crossbar. UPDATE-I am now almost certain this a license-built version of Japan's Kyokuto Press Packer

  • This one doesn't seem to pack as well as, for instance, the Leach 2R. Is it just the design which makes the whole packer move back into the body before the blade gets to sweep the hopper area??

  • This appears to be similar to the E-Z Pack C-series, except with the EZ Pack design, the sweep cylinders act directly on the sweep panel, whereas the K3 has the sweep cylinders mounted externally, acting through slots in the sidewall and a crossbar-linkage connected to the sweep panel. The arc of the sweep panel is much shorter than the 2R, and these small packers are probably built with speed and economy in mind. I will try to find some good drawings which may explain it better.

  • I've seen small vehicles with packers like this around seaside resorts in the UK many times through the 90s though they seem to have been phased out now by the ever smaller truck mounted models.

  • its a baby truck :P
