University of Delaware President Harker dinner with members of UD's track team

University of Delaware President Patrick Harker has dinner with 10 students, 5 of which are members of UD's track & field team, which was recently cut. As Harker put it himself, the team "hijacked" the dinner in order to have an opportunity to talk about the decision. There is another video, but that file got corrupted, and we're working on fixing it. This second video contains a much more heated argument, showing President Harker yelling at the students.

Wow u track people are so winey. i read about this article in the UD newspaper and was sorely disappointed. President Harker maybe looks a little annoyed but not angry. Very childish trying to confront him at a dinner. He probably would have made an appointment if you cool track people wanted to talk to him. want to know why track got cut? because ur not good and nobody CARES! except for the people that do it of course.

@musclesmalarky There are too many dumb things in that comment to even begin to address, so I'm going to keep this short. We've tried desperately for 5 weeks to get meetings with both Harker and Bernard Muir. We met with Muir once, but he gave no answers and only made the situation worse.

As far as our team not being good and nobody caring goes, well that is just not true. We've performed better than most of UD's sports in terms of conference placing and we have a huge community supporting us.

Having seen the argument from outside the table, it is pretty obvious both sides got heated. The difference is the team has apologized, and the team is the party that has been hurt.. President Harker has not had anything taken from him, rather he has unreasonably taken a lot away from the team with the highest GPA at the school, also he did it hiding behind Title IX. The students have the right to be upset. Neither side should lose character, but the president acted infantile at best..

I have no invested interest in this issue, but I just want to say kudos to the track team for standing up for something and being proactive. This school is teeming with apathetic idiots and you having the balls to confront Harker is a step in the right direction.

Nobody cares about your past records or "community support", which is laughable because no one watches you anyways, it comes down to dollars. Are you drawing 22000 people 8 times a year to campus??? I don't understand why they took out the cheapest sport in the school. Football costs 50x more than XC or track. This is ridiculous.
