did you jusst fucking say australia backed the indonesians? what the fuck have you been snorting,no injecting, we sent 5000 troops, 5000 troops! to east timor to establish peace and rid it of pro-indonesian millitia. fuck, get your facts right cunt.
Yes, troops were sent, and yes they did save some lives. They did a tremendous job under pressure, but the humanitarian mission was forced on the Australian govt. by widespread public action. See 'Reluctant Saviour' by Fernandes. You should also read the CAVR report. Australia, along with UK and US, was found to have actively supported the Indonesians throughout the period. 183,000 people died.

Australia didn't just send 5000 troops, and it wasn't for peacekeeping. Pick up a book and do some reading instead of just projecting your patriotic opinions. Australia wasn't just the only land who acknowledge East Timor as Indonesias 27th province, Australia also taught and trained Indonesian soldiers and supported the country with both military and political means. If you read a book about the genocide in East Timor, or just search the web, this is acual information you will come up with.
