"Sarah" is a fabrication.
In this 3-minute video, California State Assemblymember Dave Jones cross-examines Catherine Short, the primary author of Proposition 4 (the 2008 version of a ballot initiative that recently failed twice before). Assemblymember Jones pressed Ms. Short to admit that "Sarah" did not exist, despite being the purported inspiration for California ballot Proposition 4, dubbed "Sarah's Law" by its proponents.
As the reluctant and testy testimony reveals, the Sarah story --fabricated by Short and others to pitch Prop. 4-- was really a Jammie Garcia Yanez-Villegas, a married woman in Texas who died from a botched, illegal abortion. Therefore, the stated intent for requiring parental notification would not have applied to this victim of an illegal abortion, despite the tall tail spun by advocates of Proposition 4. Ironically, if an abortion procedure were safe and legal and confidential, this fake "Sarah" still may be alive today.
The legislative hearing in this video originated from The California Channel, a public-record of the State government. Video edited and produced by Cathy Murillo.
