David Fincher is a great director.

I love David Fincher's style, but I'm ambivalent about his use of CG dolly shots like this. On one hand they're cool as hell and they give you a sense of what's going on in the 3D space of the scene, but sometimes I think he over-uses them. My favorite movie of his is still Seven, and that movie had little if any CG.

You failed the vocabulary segment of film school didn't you?

@stratocaster1986able it's great because it's the first one being done like that, almost impossible at that time. David Fincher said it took a little less than a year to finally put them together.
Of course Fringe can now make them in CGI and stuff, but back then it was a lot harder.

This is one of my favorite movies. Forest Whitaker and Jodie Foster were great for their roles. I didn't like Raul. He showed his true colors told the end -- he was just an inexperienced bus driven that was nothing without his gun.

The opening sequence is not special. I know it sounds like I am just being a hater but I've seen a lot of opening sequences and if you think its one of the greatest then you clearly haven't seen many films.

@scatterbrain73 Exactly!!! There is a moment in the sequence I start looking technique instead of story.
The actual correct name is "sequence shot". Dolly shot is NOT "just a name", it clearly involves some kind of railing or wheeled platform.

But it might be called dolly, if you consider the 'virtual' rails and wheeled platform, like whem it crosses the coffee maker or the key hole.

that "dolly" shot, looks like it was clearly done with a crane

In fact, it was done with a computer, but emulating a crane, and a dolly. "dolly" shot is just a name that refers to a bunch of things. It´s like saying that french fries are, in fact, made with potatoes from other countries. Cinism sucks.
