This is a very good basic tutorial that explains usage of seams better... This skill is largely overlooked in uv mapping tuts... Thanks for the cool video any blender beginner would def be able to utilize this info.

I am pleased and thank you very much. With this I can finally delve into the world of 3-d modeling and animation.
The only thing I got stuck on was this whole textures thing, so yay for finally being able to move on to this~

Nice video! If you dont have version 2.46 there's another way to do it. Just select all the edges you need, press ctrl+E and select mark seams. That works the same way.

how do you save the UV unwrap texture to the computer ?

how do you get the numbers to come up in the uv window?

I made an object and divided it up each side of it with seams so it should be able to unwrap each side completely flat with no stretching but it doesn't, it unwraps it and skews it into a circle.
i dont see the uv face select on mines! is it only in version 2.46 because i am using the 2.48 version

wow, way to be rude about it. Way to complain about free help. If you would have read the video description you would have seen there is a link to a better quality video.

hi dude.. is there anyway i can use mirror symmetry to lay out seams?
jagitude 2 years ago
i think if you were to model a character using a mirror modifier and then unwrap it before applying the modifier the seams will be mirrored, either that or the seems will just overlap eachother and you just have to paint one side.
