I remain unconvinced that that was Richard Kelly's intention. The entire film seems far too confused. Too lacking in any sort of focus or direction. Personally, I think looking for meaning in Southland Tales is like reading goat entrails. Sure, you might find some meaning in it, but it wasn't put there intentionally.
Of course it doesn't help that much of the story was released as a Graphic Novel.
lol its funny for someone to say that made no sence the movie is not too much better but it not making sence is the beauty of it, BEST TRIP MOVIE EVER.
This movie will be remembered as one of the more interesting cinematic expressions of the 00's decade in America: we were disillusioned and sexless but horny overmedicated attention spans bloated on pop science and celebrities, talking heads and news, God and endtimes paranoia. The movie certainly not a perfect execution of these things, but it's definitely - ultimately - very accurate. And in the end, it's hilarious, too.
Saw it already a fan of "Donnie Darko" and WRONGLY expected the same. Disliked it but couldn't shake it...watched it again a week later. Now a year after, I can saw that if you focus on what doesn't make sense in the plot, you'll miss the point.
