That and more in the next edition of KINO.And the Oscar goes to... - Max Zähle's short film about illegal adoption wins an Academy AwardMax Zähle's graduate project for the Hamburg Media School won him an Oscar. The short film RAJU is the powerful story of an Indian boy torn from his family and sold to a German couple.Zähle spent months in India researching the tale and shot in Calcutta. KINO met up with the Oscar winner at his home in Hamburg.

In his new work, THE BLUE OF THE SKY, Steinbichler again goes on a journey. This time its into the forgotten past of a woman suffering from dementia.Accompanying the old woman is her daughter, a TV journalist. Both travel to Latvia and uncover a family secret. KINO uncovers this powerful film about a forgotten piece of German-Baltic history. THE KINO PROFILE - Actress Juliane KöhlerHer international breakthrough was the Oscar-winning drama NOWHERE IN AFRICA, her most famous role was as Hitler's lover Eva Braun in the (Oscar nominated) DOWNFALL. Juliane Köhler is one of Germany's busiest actors, regularly turning up in the biggest films of the year.Like in Hans Steinbichler's THE BLUE OF THE SKY where she plays Sofia, a woman who discovers her childhood was built on a foundation of lies. METROPOLIS 2011 -- The Munich Film Festival awarded its first director's prize and gave it to two filmmakers: to Ralf Huettner for the tragicomedy VINCENT WANTS TO SEA and to Feo Aladag for her feature debut WHEN WE LEAVE.WHAT YOU DON'T SEE -- A beautifully-shot horror trip. Wolfgang Fischer's psycho-thriller about the fear and longing of youth.



ARSCHKALT -- A comedy from director André Erkaus about an icecold boss and scraping bottom in the modern-day workplace.MUNICH FILMFEST -- Bigger and more interantional than everJohn Malkovich and Charlotte Rampling were the biggest stars but they weren't the only ones making the trip to Munich this year. Germany's second largest film festival keeps gaining in importance. More than 70,000 visitors took in 200 films on 18 screens in this public festival.Young German directors have pride of place in Munich. The discovery this year was Tim Fehlbaum's appocolyptic thriller HELL, produced by Roland Emmerich. KINO with the hottest German debuts.
