How do you get the rounding node after doing the intersect to make the "shine". All I get is access to my points and their curve handels. I don't get the circle to round the corners.

First select your path or rectangle and hit Ctrl-J (or Path->Dynamic Offset from the menu). This will give you the handle that will let you control the offset with a single handle.
The object then becomes a dynamic offset. Be careful because it sometimes means it's a lot slower to move and pan this object, so once you're happy with it, turn it back into a normal path using Ctrl-Shift-C (Path->Object to Path).

I recorded this on linux using the recordmydesktop application (which is entirely free). The zooming effects are part of my linux desktop system. I use recordmydesktop to record all my screencasts.
