MAGIC FLUTE The 3 Ladies rescue Tamino from the paparazzi

From the Bel Canto Opera production of The Magic Flute.

PRINCE TAMINO:
Do leave me, just leave me! For God's sake get off me!
These vultures, these vipers, they snipe and they scoff me!
Relentlessly prying and shamelessly spying,
they're trying to break me!
They stalk night and day... they twist what I say...
I'm going mad, I swear to God I'm going mad
Won't someone drive these vipers ...drive these guttersnipes away.

THE THREE LADIES (members of the Queen's hunt): Go, hateful hacks, leave him alone.
Well done, well done.
We gave each one what he deserves.
This gentle lad, driven quite mad,
tormented, galled by those he serves.

FIRST LADY: A golden boy...a dainty dish.
SECONDLADY: As dashing as a lass could wish.
THIRD LADY: Alas, were I still twenty..ish...
ALL: Ah, what a catch this lad would be
If I were still as young as he,
he might agree
to marry me!
Now that we've spared the Prince their malice
We must report this to the Palace
This youth's arrival here could mean
we've found the perfect go-between
to intervene, to serve the Queen.
LADY 1: I'll stay here at the scene. You go and tell the Queen
LADY 2 My dear, if you don't mind, I'd rather stay behind.
LADY 3: You leave the Prince alone. I'll guard him on my own.
LADY 1: I'll nurse him while he's ill.
LADY 2: I'd tend him better still.
LADY 3:Oh no you won't. I will!
LADY 1: I'll nurse him.
LADY 2: I'll tend him.
LADY 3: I'll guard him.
ALL: I, I, me!
You go, my dear, I'm staying here.
Begone begone begone.
I'm staying on and on till dawn.
Begone!
(aside) Each wants to see the others go.
I'll not do so. No, no no!
It's them that's got to go!
Three sisters are de trop -
so two of them should go!
Those jealous two have doubts about me..
they're not about to leave without me.
I might as well admit defeat.
My thwarted heart must beat retreat.
All three of us will leave en suite!
(to Prince) Dear boy, we don't know when or how,
but we shall meet again, I vow.
And so farewell for now. (exeunt)
