i guess thru the times from our tipuna to now most things have changed! we no longer do things the way they did and i believe that haka is one of the only things we as maori have actually stayed stead fast too!
and i have never ever seen tika tona been done with such control
kia ora totaranui any chances of posting a video of this haka how you remember it with the off beat and right tempo for us ...kia ora pai mai te taonga nei....
I was told that this haka originates from a man by the name of Te Whenua Kura Nikeera before the late Rohu Te Kani elaborated his connection to it. Hereafter, this Haka became prominent throughout Ngati Kahungunu and to other Maori groups however the way I remember this haka is that it is an off Beat Haka and was never done on the beat. always count three seconds and start on the fourth hikei then you will find the real sound and tempo of tika tonu. CHUR!
Haha the kaea called out "tika tonu" on the wrong beat. When you say "ka" on the first tika, the arms should be extended as opposed to slapping the chest. Doesn;t matter too much I guess, but it can put you off for the following actions a little bit.
One of the great taonga about Te Ao Maori is that there is no right or wrong way to 'do' haka. It is what it is depending on region, varying from Hapu to Hapu.

I was always told as a child that tika tonu is always performed twice, i would've have voted for one more verse just to finish it off :)
