"Wind Sculpture Weathervane" (home owner edition for the Appalachian Sculpture Project). Please feel free to forward this to anybody you think mite be interested. This sculpture was finished on, 11/24/2011. This documentary video was shot in the sculpture garden at the Al Garnto Fine Art Studio, Blairsville, Georgia. Copyright, 2011
The Appalachian Sculpture Project was conceived by Al Garnto, a native of Union County, in hopes of exposing areas of the Appalachian Mountains to art and sculpture that would otherwise not be attainable by small community funding. Mr. Garnto is currently looking for colleges, state universities, and rural towns along the route of the Appalachian Mountains that would be interested in being a part of this project for educational purposes.
Mr Garnto's vision is to do 24 kinetic sculptures from Georgia to Maine. Meeks Park, located in Blairsville, Georgia (the heart of the Appalachian Mountains) is host to 8 of Mr. Garnto's kinetic sculptures, making the park the largest kinetic sculpture show in Northeast Georgia history.
Mr. Garnto's sculptures have helped increase tourism, attracted students from surrounding colleges and school systems, utilized recycled materials, increased awareness of learning differences, and added to the beauty of Meeks Park. Most of the sculptures incorporate an art or history lesson for educational purposes. If you would like to host one or more of these sculptures from the Appalachian Sculpture Project, email Mr. Garnto at algarnto@gmail.com (please add "Appalachian Sculpture Project" to the subject line of your email). Grants and funding is available from various sources.
