Lucas' Port Access for Chemotherapy (Vincristine)

6 yr old having port accessed for chemotherapy (vincristine). Caution: The video shows the needle being inserted into the port and some blood being drawn.

Update: December 2009. Lucas is doing well - his last treatment was in June 2008. He gets his next set of scans in January 2009 and we are praying for "NED" - no evidence of disease.

Lucas was diagnosed with a brain tumour in April 2007. He had it resected, underwent 30 rounds of radiation, and is undergoing chemotherapy. He is in his 5th round in this video.

@pink89berry Great. Thanks for asking. He celebrated 2 years since end of treatment in June and his July scans showed no evidence of disease. Praise God we are so thankful!!!

What is that other thing on his rib? Is it another kind of port?

@tvloonie111 It is his feeding (g-tube). Both his port and g-tube have been removed now. We joke that he has "two" bellybuttons.

I have the port to! I got blood work and my chemo in it for a year now

She cleans it for so long because she is using a chemical not chlorhexidine instead of alcohol used by other institutions.

Chlorhexidine uses a different mechanism of cleaning than alcohol- she has to use to swabs and rub to obtain a clean and sterile procedure!
