AST/RO was a submillimeter-wave telescope at the South Pole, in operation from 1995 until 2005. It was used for heterodyne spectroscopy of atoms and molecules in the Milky Way, and served as a prototype for the South Pole 10 meter telescope. Featured scientist is Dr. Antony A. Stark of the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory. Video by Dr. Gregory A. Wright.
