    Carr is absolutely right here. The word that they're pussyfooting around and not using for some reason is "kitsch." Kitsch is what makes just about all of Spielberg's work, despite it's glossy, technical excellence, all a bit tawdry, cheap and superficial. Spielberg's weakness is the inability to hit a true, emotional moment without signally to the audience, in some way, that "this is a true, emotional moment!"
