10/1/11 - On the way back into town after the Casitas ride, this guy in the red jersey kept cutting around cars and rolling through lights to get ahead of us starting with cutting through the gas station in Montecito at Olive Mill Rd. After a while of that, Paul and I decided to teach him some humility...

  • What's your rear hub? Sounds nice. Also does Paul have bar end shifters?!

  • @deltree I can't recall what wheel I was using at the time. Likely my Roval with a DT Swiss hub, or maybe one of my Mavics. And yes, Paul uses bar end shifters.

  • @sweixel you came out all right either way; and maaaaan, watching this video just makes me wish for summer even more - about 2C over here. :/

  • @koko56 And I did forsee it and I was moving to my escape route on the right. It's pretty much impossible to not be next to a car, slow down for one and the next one behind is now next to you.

  • @GameTheory101 I'm not getting you. All I was saying is that it's best to try foresee situations like that so that you don't put yourself into a situation where you don't have any "escape routes".

  • @koko56 - Riding requires defense and the car at 1:26 just decided, "hookie dookie! I think I'll turn right now.. GO!" It's again and again crazy that when it matters, people think bikes should act like cars and when they do, they think bikes should act like pedestrians... Which they are. It's 4000 vs. 200 pounds and the minute you "act like a car" you get crushed by one. Just ride.

  • @sweixel Fair enough, personally prefer to slow down to be behind a car until the turn has been passed - so you don't end up in situations exactly like @ 1:26 or worse. Was surprised to see you do that as imagine you got experience in cycling.

  • @koko56 The car at 1:26 didn't start signaling until a moment before it started to turn. My friend was already alongside; I shouted out so he would know, and I was moving to turn right in case the car still turned. There were other people behind and to my left so I couldn't just stop. At 3:10 the car was stopped at light and not moving; at 6:07 & 6:21 I went around to the left. The car at 6:30 was marginal, I could have gone left but it was slowing down and I did not consider it a threat.

  • @sweixel 1:26 and another one - cba to search the vid. Not dissing just expressing concern.

  • @koko56 Specifically?
