Pianist/composer/conductor Sergei Rachmaninoff left Russia in 1917 and never returned. He settled in the U. S. in 1918 and died in Southern California in 1943. The soundtrack is the opening sequence of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3. Affectionately called "Rach 3" by pianists, it is famously difficult to play, which is the reason why some pianists participating in piano competitions purposely choose it as their show piece to impress the judges.
A longer version of the same piano concerto performed by "Piano God" Vladimir Samoylovich Horowitz in a 1978 concert: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90iRwSpBQDA
