On 26 April 2009 a big storm drove an unusually high tide in Port Phillip Bay, which caused Kananook Creek to overflow its banks in Frankston. Port Phillip Bay was deepened through dynamiting the entrance and dredging the sea-floor to allow bigger draft container ships to enter. Obviously this widening and deepening has allowed much greater volumes of water to enter. Apparently Venice has had similar problems since shipping channels were deepened. Residents wonder how much worse things may get if sea-levels rise generally along with winds becoming more violent.
There is a part 2 to this video, which shows the houses on the creek in some detail, see, "Storm tide views of CBD & Houses on Kananook".
