This is me defeating Haya Oh, the incredibly difficult final boss that appears at the end of stage 18 on Space Harrier for the Sega Master System, and I did it without dying (took me MANY tries though).

I did this using the Dega Sega Master System emulator. It is not "tool assisted" in the traditional sense of a tool-assisted video (such as using multiple save states and frame advance during the recording), however I did use a save state to start at the final boss, then I clicked on the the "start recording" feature and kept trying over and over again to beat him on one life using nothing but good old persistence (and a little luck as well).

They were some definite close calls battling this boss, and I got especially nervous when the first half of Haya Oh exploded, but I hung on for the win.

Hope you enjoy!

  • I never knew there was an extra boss in Space Harrier, or that there was some text for the ending. Why wasn't this included in the Sega Ages remake?

Man, the North American videogame market is denied too much of the good stuff! How do I get this emulator?

  • The game featured in this video is actually the US version of Space Harrier for the Sega Master System, and this was a Master System exclusive boss (still would have been nice to have him in the Sega Ages verison, though).

To get this emulator, just do a quick google for "sega master system dega emulator", and you should be able to find it from a few different sites with little difficulty (you can also find the rom without too much of a problem

  • Damn it's been maybe 20 years i was waiting for seeing this.. I was about 8 at that time, so i couldn't really expect to reach the end of this game! Last time i cheched this out on UT, there was nothing; no chance to see this ending... Now i see it at last..

    Thanx a lot jwstorm!!

  • My pleasure! I know what you mean about there not being anything on UT that showed either the last boss or the ending, which is exactly what prompted me to do it. I loved this game growing up, and I did beat the last boss on an actual Master System when I was about 14, but NEVER without dying (or dying multiple times for that matter).

  • 3:05 was the best part.

  • Up ahead, awaiting our hero, is another life and death battle in hIs never ending crusade to liberate those who yearn to be free.

    I love that line.

  • Great vid. Thanks again. I remembered playing this when I was 8 too. lol.

  • @shungiku02 I've had many a shouting matches against WiWi Jumbo in the SMS days.

  • @stufaman DEFINITIELY! Try it out. Warning, the second wave of bosses are more difficult than the first ones. A lot of them include the bosses that come in groups. The hardest thing is that you have to fight Wiwi Jumbo RIght before Haya Oh so your auto-shot is drained by the time you get to Haya Oh. When you do it, You'll see what I mean.

  • @shungiku02 I might just take you up on that.

  • @shungiku02 The secret boss took me about 6 months to find. I looked at a glitches guide and for the space harrier section, i saw the EXTRA STAGE. And, 3 months of figuring crap out and investigations later, BOSS DEFEATED.

  • @stufaman I totally agree on the part that they didn't make the bosses look as epic as the original ones, especially in Haya Oh's case since they made him look more fox-like in the PS2 version. Nonetheless, a great remake. If you ever try the trick and it doesn't work, I would be glad to walk you through it.

  • @shungiku02 Wicked. I'll check that out then, thank you. Yeah I loved the PS2 Space Harrier. But some of the bosses didn't look as good as their retro counterpart IMO.

    Still, an awesome remake.

  • @Yoshirockdude Dude you're absolutely right! That's what I've been trying to tell everyone but no one listens. It depends on if you can defeat Valda quick enough on both accounts and continue to fire in the end!! YOU KNOW ABOUT IT!! I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one. Believe it or not, I discovered the trick by accident on my third time playing.

  • @stufaman Haya Oh IS on the PS2 verrsion. I fight him all the time. The extra stage 22 is gained by downing Valda on both accounts as quick as possible and by continuing firing after you've defeated him the second time. You won't fight Haya Oh right away. You must get past a gauntlet of bosses including Wiwi Jumbo again. Haya Oh's music remix is a MUST hear! Please try it. Any questions ask me. The claim is true but the thing I dont like about him is his new more sublte look.
