Kidnapping is a fairly serious offence that carries years in jail. Simpson entered a room while armed and told everyone in that room not to leave it. That is deprivation of liberty and kidnapping in some states. But 15 years is the sentencing level of a murder or grievous bodily harm case (even higher than assault).
