Growing Power is a sustainable urban agriculture center located in the city of Milwaukee. It was founded by Will Allen to introduce healthier food options to the urban community, while simultaneously demonstrating a sustainable model for local food production.

  • There is a NY restaurant that produces all it's vegetables and herbs using vertical hydroponics on it's roof top. Just imagine if it uses Verticrop systems or the improved vertical Mittleider system. That restaurant can produce all it needs and recycle all it's wastes using Living Machines and others to be self-contained by producing it's own certified GE-FREE seeds, fertilizer, natural pesticides, bio-energy, etc. The investments can in mere months and huge savings achieved in less than a year.

  • With additional improvements made by the techniques of Professor John Todd's Living Machines combined with aquaponics and anaerobic diatomaceous earth tank reactors combined with hydroponics and an engineered marsh that produces clean air, water, and food, and using the city's wastes as a resource w/c is sterilized by biological means by the Living Machines, plus others like Bengal hydroponics, Wroclow hydroponics, Improved Mittleider hydroponics (the cheapest and safest), etc. Food security!

  • Producing food inside an urban center is less energy intensive because food does not have to be transported hundreds or thousands of miles away. Using vertical agriculture like Verticrop producing in a 50' x 75' area as much food as a 16 acre farm. that can produce in a 50' x 75' area as much food as a 16 acre farm, then imagine what a 45 story high building wt 1 acre of floor space area & designed to allow sunlight to reach through and through deeply can produce?

  • @cpeterson2003 Inspire it in your own community

  • @grandmastermicochero On a different clip it says the solar panels are to heat water.

  • @davehutchinson67 Quadrupal like ...RESPECT

  • @idrinkguinnessalot Create one?!!

Start as big as you are able...if you know a bit about farming or gardening you are 1/3 of the way there. All the information need to do a system and greenhouse is here on youtube. Me...I want to see this place and shake this guys hand.

  • I am going to visit this guy. I want to know how he started and how I can emulate his work. This guy is a hero in the truest sense of the word. A mentor for us all.

  • I sure wish there was a "Growing Power" here in the inner city of San Antonio Texas :)

  • Very inspirational.
