Peter Paul and Mary, Leaving on a Jet Plane

Lyrics:

All my bags are packed, I'm ready to go
I'm standing here outside your door
I hate to wake you up to say goodbye
But the dawn is breakin', it's early morn
The taxi's waiting, he's blowin' his horn
Already I'm so lonesome I could cry.
Chorus:
So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you'll wait for me
Hold me like you'll never let me go.
I'm leavin' on a jet plane
I don't know when I'll be back again
Oh, babe, I hate to go.
There's so many times I've let you down
So many times I've played around
I tell you now, they don't mean a thing
Every place I go, I think of you
Every song I sing, I sing for you
When I come back, I'll wear your wedding ring.
(Chorus)
Now the time has come to leave you
One more time let me kiss you
Then close your eyes, I'll be on my way.
Dream about the days to come
When I won't have to leave alone
About the times, I won't have to say,
(Chorus)

  • Sweet song. Seemed like they were short a couple of microphones though.

  • @ n506g,

    LOL LOL That is funny!

Mary NEVER had her own mike whenever Peter Paul and Mary performed.

She always shared a mike with Paul Stookey.

  • John Denver once left on a jet plane one time... and no one heard from him again.

  • @ lmc06g,

Yes, it was a terrible tragedy. He was only 53 and from what I remember his small plane went into the ocean in Monterey Bay along California. He was flying alone in a small plane since he was a pilot and the engine failed. I remember when it happened and was in the news. They did positively identify his remains.

  • @cschoon1213 This is an understatement. I used to be a DeeJay, but had to quit when rap, hip-hop, techno, and house took over the popular music charts. I guess I got old, and I know each generation usually hates the music of the previous one; but, with very few exceptions, there just isn't any redeeming value in today's music. I grew up listening to the Beatles, PP&M, Lesley Gore, etc. "My" music was Boston, Cars, Styx, Queen, etc. I feel so bad for kids today as they have no good choices.
