" Hi my name is Aung San Suu Kyi, and I am known for standing up for democracy in Burma. I was born in 1945 in Ragoon, Burma. I studied at the Oxford University, where I got my B.A. Degree in philosophy, politics, and economics. I worked at the United Nations, which is in New York. In 1972, I married Micheal Aris. My first son I had was Alexander ( with a smile because my friend was named Alexander too.) and he was born in 1973. My second son was Kim and he was born in 1977. I returned to Burma in 1988 to help my mom recover from an illness, unfortunately she died. During my trip, I found out that the Burmese military government was treating the citizens very unfairly. I made a speech at the Shwedagon Pagoda about the cruel ways the military was treating the people. I founded the NLD which opposed the SLORC, and NLD stands for National League of Democracy. In 1990, the NLD won the elections but the military government turned over the results, so till now. I was under house arrest 15 out of 22 years. My first house arrest was from 1989 to 1995. I was house arrest again from 2000-2002. I was recently released from a 7 year house arrest in 2010. It started in 2003. I have won 82 prizes (and probably more today). But most know me that I got the Noble Peace Prize. I got it in 1991. I won it because showed my support to the many people throughout the world who are striving to achieve democracy, human rights, and ethnic agreement by peaceful means. All the awards offered me money, and I put it in my educational fund at the London Bank. Since my last release on 11/13/10, I have met my youngest son, Kim. I have helped the HIV/AIDS patients in Burma. I am very connected with the people inside and outside of Burma. I founded the Mother House School. Which is for the children of the political prisoners. And I am the 9th admirable women in the world. Thank you. "
