When talking about the drug war that's raging across the border, Rick Perry said "It may require our military, in Mexico, working in concert with them, to kill these drug cartels and to keep them off our border and to destroy their networks". But while we don't officially have boots on the ground, our military as well as our cops, have been very much involved over the years in training Mexican cops. Reason's Mike Riggs explains the $1.6 billion Merida Initiative.

  • Or, or, OR we could legalize marijuana and take those fuckers out of business. A peaceful solution goes against Perry's conscience, I guess, if he has one.

  • @mert828 Nope wrong. If you legalize marijuana that won't take cartels out of business because most of their revenue comes form cocaine sales to the U.S. So in reality you'd have to legalize all drugs. On top of that Cartels also make money off of human trafficking and sex trafficking not only drugs. It's up to the power and will of the Mexican people to end the corruption that exist within the Mexican government that allow these cartels to thrive in such power.

  • the Mexican disarmed local police in border towns...why are we supporting them? gov perry should be more concerned with sealing the border not launching a preemptive strike into a foreign country...

  • no president of Mexico can be re-elected...

  • @mert828 The biggest business is cocaine, legalizeing marijuana won't do shit.

  • cant trust nobody in mexico, even the police are behind those drugs

  • @mert828

Legalizing marijuana will not take the drug cartels out of business. Drug trafficking is not their only source of income, unfortunately. But I agree with you, legalization will hurt them financially, and I back up that idea, too. However, the United States should do something to stop the illegal flow of weapons into Mexico, and as well tracking down the cash flow south of the border.

  • IMO the threat of Mexico's drug cartel run occupation spilling over onto US soil is far greater than anything in Afghanistan, Iraq, Sudan, and all the Arab nations combined.

  • My boy Mike Riggs, I remember tripping with that guy in undergrad!

  • Americans Forces are never welcomed in Mexico for any reason.

  • ALL BLAME SHOULD BE ON DRUG CRAZED AMERICANS FOR THE DEATH AND NOSING IN OTHER GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS.
